Assateague Island is best known for its wild horses, about 300 total. There are two public beaches, North Ocean Beach after passing the fee station on the north side of the park and South Ocean Beach on the south end of the park.
Virginia Beach, a major beach resort, is one of the most visited beaches near DC. There is much to do and see, including a busy boardwalk, many restaurants, shops, nightclubs, wildlife, and state parks.
Chincoteague Island, seven miles long and three miles wide, is a resort island located off Virginia’s Eastern Shore and the gateway to Assateague Island’s Virginia side. Visitors can relax on the beach or watch a spectacular sunset over the Chincoteague Bay.
