Assateague Island

Assateague Island is best known for its wild horses, about 300 total. There are two public beaches, North Ocean Beach after passing the fee station on the north side of the park and South Ocean Beach on the south end of the park.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Cape May, New Jersey

Chincoteague Island, seven miles long and three miles wide, is a resort island located off Virginia’s Eastern Shore and the gateway to Assateague Island’s Virginia side. Visitors can relax on the beach or watch a spectacular sunset over the Chincoteague Bay.

Lewes, Delaware

Lewes, Delaware is a small, quiet beach town, a half-square mile in size, located where the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet at Cape Henlopen. The public beach, located on the Delaware Bay, has little wave activity, making this beach great for young children.

Ocean City, Maryland

Ocean City, a major beach resort, has 10 miles of white sand beaches that make this beach resort ideal for swimming, surfing, and jogging.  The resort includes amusement parks, miniature golf courses, shopping malls, movie theaters, and the 3-mile Ocean City Boardwalk.

Point Lookout, Maryland

Point Lookout, one of the state’s most popular parks, is located at St. Mary’s County’s southern-most tip.  Visitors enjoy great views, swimming, fishing, boating, and camping.  The swimming beach, open Memorial Day to Labor Day, has grills, picnic tables, a playground, showers, and restrooms.

Sandy Point, Maryland

Sandy Point, a 786-acre Maryland State Park and Washington, DC’s closest beach, is located on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and offers visitors breathtaking scenic water views, boating, fishing, picnic areas, shelters, bathhouses, and playgrounds.

Bethany Beach-Fenwick, Delaware

Bethany Beach and Fenwick, Delaware, are best known for being the smaller, peaceful, and family-friendly beach resorts, especially when compared to their neighboring alternatives of Ocean City, Maryland to the north, and Rehoboth, Delaware, to the south.

Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, Delaware

Rehoboth Beach, population 1,500, increases to more than 25,000 during the peak summer months.  One of the most family-friendly beach resort areas on the East Coast, Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, features a mile-long boardwalk, arcades, and many shops and restaurants.
